The orange/red/different orange cobalt behind it is just the perfect contrast and how many of these will eventually end up . It’s hard to believe these came right after each other without an intervening generation.

They started with a lowly LS trim like mine so apparently they didn’t want to have to deal with the problematic turbo 4. Nice yellow brake calipers.

And the Cobalt itself  was a major step up from the Cavalier (not enough of a step up to get to parity with Civic/Corolla, but a big improvement).

How cavalier of you.

The Cruze still feels pretty modern, especially the interior since that design ethos only really got phased out on new models recently and there are a lot of carry overs still . The Cobalt still clearly was carrying a torch for the 90s but with a 2000s aero look.

That Cruze doesn't look to bad honestly.

It isn't overdone and looks semi driveable. Better than most.

Funny how time lends perspective. I remember when the cobalt came out and people were like “yeah it’s not as good as a civic, but it’s close enough that you’d be splitting hairs”

Not so much the thinking anymore. That said, I’d still rock a well maintained SS in either  turbo or supercharged form if the price was right.

A lot of details only become evident after a car has been on sale for awhile and accumulated a record of real world usage experience. Also, I think the automotive press often went a bit easier GM than was justified, particularly when they entered their final death throes in the ‘00s. Kind of a not wanting to kick them when they were down, and clearly trying very  hard to fight back and fix themselves.

I think you are 100 percent correct in this theory on both counts.
